Staying one step ahead

Good afternoon blog readers

I hope that you are all well
My subject for today is keeping one step ahead

I sell my items on etsy, its such a crowded market place that the category i'm in is flooded with amazing sellers all trying to get their work noticed

Lucky for me there isnt a massive group of resin makers maybe we are a niche market, So how do you stay one step ahead of the game ?

It's so easy to make similar items of someone elses work when you see it doing well, I'm not mentioning names at all but its rife in all fields resin included

So i just try and do what i enjoy in my own little way,One way that i've decided to stay one step ahead is to make a *signature* item one thing that no-one on etsy already does and after seeaching long and hard the jigsaw piece resin keyring was born,Filled with glitter and sequins these are always going to be in my shop

You never know one day a customer might talk about my shop and be like *oh yeah we know rocktastic plastic they have those really cool jigsaw piece keyrings*
So that's what i'm doing making a name for myself and doing things that i enjoy

I must also say a massive thank you to everyone thats bought from me so far you've all been truly awesome

Creating frenzy

Photobucket

So It's been a great weekend here in the uk, not too windy or cold on the saturday-I don't even want to go into the day that was sunday it was blowing a gale and raining like there was no tomorrow i give up with the weather in my country
Anyway, onto brighter things because the weather was so rubbish i had plenty of time to get creative with some new resin pieces

I have always been a fan of the unique and funky, I'm 24 but i still have a young heart and bright things will always make me go weak at the knees so i put my creating hat on and came up with what i call the three letter word collection, i used the brightest neon beads and cake sprinkles and i love how cool they have come out don't you ?

I am so proud of how they came out, you can find them here http://www.rocktasticplastic.etsy.com/

Oh my !

Photobucket

Well firstly apologies to anyone that wanted to read my blog....got here and couldn't find anything new
I've been so carried away with making my resin that... well i forgot to blog about it,I promise it won't happen again.

So i've been making some awesome little halloween inspired pieces-I know i know its not halloween untill the end of the year but when i saw the cutest little bats and ghost buttons i just knew i had to make something with them as soon as i could,Pictures will be coming soon they are curing now and i'm at work ooh i can't wait untill i go home and check them out i'm very excited

It seems that there aren't many resin makers in the uk, I sell on etsy and most of the resin crafters are from america selling in america so i'm doing my own thing for the uk market to enjoy too

So a little bit about me, At the minute i work full time for a publishing company,Its good fun but it's not really my passion-My passion is for creating thing and i dream (sounds silly but i do) of giving up work and just having my own little studio where i could make a living from what i sell
I think a lot of crafters think like that, for now i just hope that people will like what i do and will buy it and appreciate it because i love making fun and unique things and bringing them to the masses :-)

I promise it wont be so long untill my next posting so do keep checking back

The beginning of this Rocktastic Plastic journey

Photobucket

So this is the beginning of the journey really
Hi my name is sammi and i am a charm and necklace obsessive, yes i admit it i'm hooked on kitsch and funky things- and this is my blog ( i almost feel like i'm in one of those centres where you admit what your vice is and they give you help-but i don't need it oh no!)

I've set up this blog in conjunction with my etsy shop (link at the bottom of the page) so that anyone that wants too can combine the two together so that if you ever do buy my items then you get an overview about me and what I do.

Rocktastic Plastic came to me in a flash of inspiration in March 07 but its really now that I am focusing on it and bringing it to the masses .
I adore kitsch and wanted to put that into wearable necklaces that everyone could wear and just have some fun with

I use resin in my designs along with charms and other bits and bobs that I might find and think would look good together.
Most of my necklaces are themed and I try and put related charms together
I will never make anything I wont wear myself so its always nice to know that others like your tastes too ,In fact i am probably the biggest fan of my own work but then again aren't we all

As mentioned earlier I adore the kitsch and the funky with a passion and refuse to grow old, who says that as you grow older you need to fall in line, I say Pffffft to that ....wear the bright and funky necklaces that I make and just be yourself and fun with it

Thats it for now
